WilmerHale Named a Finalist in The American Lawyer's 2016 IP Litigation Department of the Year Contest

The American Lawyer has named WilmerHale as one of three finalists for 2016 Litigation Department of the Year in the Intellectual Property category. In its profile of the firm, The American Lawyer highlights WilmerHale's client commitment and its long-term strategic thinking, versatility and depth of first-chair trial talent.
This is the sixth time the firm has been recognized in the IP category of this contest since the title of IP Litigation Department of the Year was first awarded to a firm in 2004. WilmerHale most recently took home the winning title in 2014, at which time the firm was praised for its work in successfully representing Apple Inc. in the smartphone patent wars against Samsung Electronics Co.
The American Lawyer's 2016 Litigation Department of the Year contest focuses on litigation matters handled between August 1, 2013 and July 31, 2015, and all Am Law 200 firms are invited to participate. The contest's categories include general litigation as well as practice-specific areas such as intellectual property, white-collar/regulatory work and product liability. Submissions by 25 firms were considered in the Intellectual Property category, and were evaluated based on conversations with clients and peers from rival firms.
In the two-year period covered by the contest, WilmerHale demonstrated itself to be an IP litigation powerhouse by delivering significant trial and appellate victories and playing a major role in shaping intellectual property law. The firm has argued more IP cases in the US Supreme Court since August 2013 than any other law firm. In addition, WilmerHale argued nearly 40 Federal Circuit appeals during the same timeframe and won a string of jury trials in patent cases throughout the United States. At the same time, the firm has become a leader in post- review and inter partes review proceedings, representing both petitioners and patent owners before the US Patent Office's Patent Trial and Appeal Board.
