The best feeling is watching founders navigate this new world armed with knowledge to push them through each phase—and getting that excited phone call to work together on the next one.
Experience: I’ve been a Silicon Valley tax law lawyer—with a focus on international tax—for 30 years, working across the entire ecosystem—from start-ups to Fortune 50 companies. I work with every industry, particularly pharmaceutical, life sciences, medical device, tech, software, hardware, and SaaS. I bring that background to companies just starting out, to give them a good picture of what to expect as they expand and grow. By showing them their likely exposures over the next 12, 24, 48 months—whether it’s tax issues, planning issues, or compliance issues—we can work together to map out the opportunities and the pitfalls.
Off the clock: I have five children between the ages of 9 and 19, so you’ll likely find me attending one of their sporting events. I try to find time for cycling, rowing, and cooking with my wife.
Favorite shows: We’re going through Grey’s Anatomy with the kids, and for movies, we’re big fans of Harry Potter, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and especially Pitch Perfect.
Memorable trip: We had a family trip planned to Italy before COVID that we finally were able to go on after years of rescheduling. That summer was so hot, that when the Italian airline workers went on strike and we had to take an 8-hour train ride from Rome to Zurich to catch a flight home, that air-conditioned train ride ended up being everyone’s favorite part of the trip.
