My favorite experiences in working with have involved those clients that I incorporated and represented for years before either selling the client or taking them public. I have been fortunate to have several of these types of experiences.
Representative Experience: I have sold my clients Orbitera (to Google), Aciex Therapeutics (to Nicox), Aegis Lightwave (to II-IV), SkyPhrase (to Yahoo), and AccuRev (to Microfocus). I also have led the IPOs of Karyopharm Therapeutics and AVEO Pharmaceuticals, and played leading roles in other IPOs, including Aileron and ConforMIS. It is extremely rewarding for me to meet with entrepreneurs when they are potential clients, help them start their companies, advise them on fundraisings, counsel them on a day-to-day , and lead them in transactions to be acquired or become a publicly traded company. I enjoy being a part of a company's entire life cycle and, most importantly, developing lasting relationships with founders and management.
Launch Moment: I was introduced to Dr. Ben Wolozin, a professor of Pharmacology and Neurology at Boston University's School of Medicine, many years ago—well before I officially started representing Ben's company. I met with Ben when he was thinking about starting a company that would focus on finding cures for neurodegenerative diseases, such as ALS and Alzheimer's. His commitment to helping patients was inspirational, and I hoped for the opportunity to work with him. After some time, Ben decided to form biotech company Aquinnah Pharmaceuticals and he asked me to represent the business. I have now been working with Ben, who is the company's Chief Scientific Officer, and Glenn Larsen, the company's Chief Executive Officer, for years—advising them on all of Aquinnah's fundraisings and serving as the company's corporate counsel. To date, Aquinnah has raised $15 million from pharmaceutical companies Pfizer Inc., AbbVie Inc. and Takeda Pharmaceuticals, which I hope will help Aquinnah achieve its goal of restoring the health of people with ALS, Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative diseases. I am proud to be a part of Aquinnah's exceptional team and hope that, through my work, I am contributing to its success.
Off the Clock: My passions are sports and music. I love all sports—both playing and watching them—and am a die hard Red Sox fan. As for music, I like all types and enjoy listening to it whenever possible. I also enjoy going to concerts and shows, and have taken up playing piano. Even though these interests are important parts of my life, nothing compares to spending time with my nephews.
