Privacy Rules Shouldn’t Handcuff the SEC
Meanwhile, in a Times op-ed, the chair of the SEC speaks out against pending privacy legislation requiring for police access to stored electronic communications, arguing that it would inhibit the Commission’s ability to investigate financial crimes.
New Rules Give Access to Main Street Investors
Speaking of the SEC, the Commission’s most recent equity rules under the will go into effect on Monday, allowing early-stage to directly fundraise from ordinary investors (called “non-” in legalese). The tradeoff for companies
willing to try it is that equity requires far greater public disclosure of financials than most seed-stage companies are willing to endure.
